Val St Lambert Paperweight

We purchased this as an unidentified paperweight from eBay in 2005. It is undoubtedly a magnum sized (3.7 inch diameter, 2.1 inch high) Val St Lambert paperweight dating from around 1900. Weight 896g. The torsade and rather crude pastry-cane millefiori canes are typical. The colours are very rich - oddly the blue ground glass appearing pink in transmitted light. The high density, typical low dome and base (similar to the Whitefriars 'button') all fit. We had the weight polished and it is now a very nice example of this company's work and probably worth a lot more than we paid for it. Val St Lambert millefiore weights are quite rare and only a few are illustrated on-line.
