The Paperweight Mall

It is not widely known that Whitefriars made a very small number of picture paperweights in the mid 1970s. These were made by transfer printing onto a cooled white disk of glass. This was then encased by the normal Whitefriars process. The weights do not contain a Whitefriars cane but the case appearance is typical of their production. A number of animal pictures have been seen and also this floral picture which is in our collection. The weight is a standard Whitefriars size and a regular 5 + 1 facet cut. Some trapped air bubbles are not uncommon which suggests the technique was not quite perfected.
